Speke
Speke, Captain John Hingston, was one of six ships to take part in the revenge fuelled attack on Te Pahi’s island in the Bay of Islands towards the end of March 1810.
Speke had been in the fisheries before joining Atlanta, Inspector, Diana, Perseverance, and New Zealander in the mistaken and deadly attack to avenge the burning of the Boyd. Two weeks after the attack, in which 60 innocent people died, Speke set sail for England in company with Atlanta and Inspector.
