Isabella
The colonial schooner Isabella sailed with HMS Alligator, from Sydney to the coast of Taranaki, New Zealand in August 1834. The purpose of the voyage was to attempt to rescue Betty Guard, wife of whaler and early New Zealand resident John Guard. Betty and her children had been kidnapped by Maori after her husband’s ship had wrecked off Cape Egmont. Her rescue was successful andIsabella sailed for Sydney from New Zealand on 11 October 1834.
A ship by the name of Isabella was also reported to be in New Zealand in October 1837.
